Sing from the Heart – For Adults

Vocal technique and performance workshop. Participants work on self-selected repertoire while enhancing vocal technique, stage presence (vs. fright!), audience rapport and developing individual style and expression. Individual focus may include: gaining more power, phrasing and stylization, increasing range (singing higher and/or lower), improving confidence and effectiveness, etc. All levels welcome whether preparing for auditions and polishing professional performances or simply testing the waters as a first-time singer.

Sing from the Heart – For Teens

Teens have the opportunity to hone their skills as solo performers. Emphasis is placed on drawing out each singer’s unique gifts and talents. Participants work on self-selected repertoire while enhancing vocal technique, stage presence (vs. fright!) and audience rapport. Individual focus may include: gaining more power, phrasing and stylization, increasing range (singing higher and/or lower), improving confidence and effectiveness, etc. A final performance will be offered to family and friends during the last class.

Sing from the Heart – For Kids (ages 6 to 12)

A fun approach for kids to sing individually at the microphone, while developing their own sense of style and presentation. Kids will gain confidence and the ability to be musically creative and self-expressed on stage. Singing and performance skills will be developed while they work on songs that they personally select (Taylor Swift? Disney?) A final performance will be offered to family and friends during the last class.

Adult Classes: 8-week session, Wednesday  7:00 to 9:00 PM, January 19th, 2011. Cost: $235.

Mini-Workshops – For Adults: 4 weeks, Wednesdays 7:00 – 9:00 PM Session start dates: November 17th, 2010 and March 16th, 2011.

Teen Classes: 6-week session, Tuesdays 3:45 to 4:45 PM, Cost: $115. Sessions for 2011: January 22nd – February 26th and March 5th – April 14th.

Kids Classes: 6-week session, Thursdays 4:00 to 5:00 PM. Cost: $115. Sessions for 2011: January 20th - February 24 and March 3rd – April 12th

All Classes are held in the choir room at 3220 S. Grand Blvd – Spokane, Washington.

About the Teacher

Robin Marks, MA, is the founder and facilitator of Sing from the Heart vocal workshops. Her training includes a BA in music performance from the University of California at San Diego; advanced studies in music theory with Nadia Boulanger and at L’Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, both in Paris, France; post-graduate studies in musicology at McGill University in Montreal. She has an extensive performance career as a  jazz vocalist.
